<p>As lung volume drops, it becomes harder for the cells in your body to receive enough oxygen and that is where the health problems start. According to a study by Dr. Dean Ward, our lung function decreases by 40% by the time we reach fifty years old. <p>In today&#8217;s article, I&#8217;ll show you how to avoid this unnecessary heart risk. What kind of exercise strengthens your heart and boosts your lung volume too.</p>
<p><strong>The Basics of Heart Healthy Exercise</strong></p>
<p>Nature fashioned your heart to adapt to challenges. In doing so, your heart eliminates unused capacity. If you train your heart to adapt to longer intervals of &#8216;cardio,&#8217; &#8211; like in a marathon, for example &#8211; you force your heart to sacrifice strength, power and reserve capacity.</p>
<p>Yet, strength, power and reserve capacity are exactly what your heart needs most to meet real world demands.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s only one way to build up the strength in your arms or legs. And that&#8217;s to physically challenge their power. Your heart is the same. You need to challenge its power &#8211; not duration &#8211; to make it stronger.</p>
<p>We get a great source of data about heart health from the landmark Harvard Health Professionals Study. Researchers followed over 7,000 people. They found that the key to exercise is not length or endurance. It&#8217;s intensity. The more energy a person exerted during exercise, the lower their risk of heart disease.</p>
<p>High intensity exercise can also help you <a href="http://www.naturalantiagingtreatments.com/" target="_blank">live longer</a>. Another Harvard study compared vigorous and light exercise. Those who performed exercise that is more vigorous had a lower risk of death than those who performed less vigorous exercise.</p>
<p>The best way to achieve high intensity workouts is to break the activity into short bursts. You can use any activity that will give your heart a bit of a challenge. My favorites are swimming, biking, running and elliptical machines.</p>
<p>I switch my patients among them to keep it fun and lower the chance of &#8216;overuse injuries.&#8217; What you use will depend on your level of fitness. The most important strategy is to increase your challenge gradually over time.</p>
<p><strong>Your Ready-to-Use PACE Program</strong></p>
<p>About ten years ago, I developed a more effective heart-strengthening program. I call it PACE for Progressively Accelerating Cardiopulmonary Exertion. It has produced dramatic results in my patients.</p>
<p>PACE focuses on short bursts of exercise. I call them intervals. Break your exercise into short bouts then increase the intensity gradually as your conditioning improves. When you do this, it&#8217;s more enjoyable, more effective and safer than longer exercise at lower intensity.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a five-interval routine you can start right away:</p>
<p>Int 1     Rest     Int 2    Rest     Int 3     Rest     Int 4     Rest     Int 5     Rest</p>
<p>2 min    2min    90 sec  2 min   60 sec  2 min   40 sec   2 min   30 sec   2 min</p>
<p>Do the first interval at a low to moderate intensity. Then rest. But when you &#8216;rest,&#8217; I don&#8217;t mean stop. Your rest interval should be a slow, easy pace &#8211; like you&#8217;re walking.</p>
<p>On the second interval, boost the intensity. If you&#8217;re on a stationary bike, for example, you can turn up the resistance so it&#8217;s harder to pedal.</p>
<p>As the length of the interval goes down, the intensity should go up. By the time you do the thirty-second interval, you should give it everything you have.</p>
<p>If you haven&#8217;t exercised in a while, go slow at first. As you improve, give yourself an extra challenge each time you workout.</p>

It is a nutrient found predominantly in red wine and grapes. There is a natural supplement out there that I believe everyone should be taking and let me tell you why. There are many good reasons to be consuming a resveratrol supplement, but this article will address just three.</p>
<p> <strong>Reason #1: Resveratrol Cause You to Live Longer!</strong><br /> Resveratrol has been shown to extend the lifespan of many different species genetically related to humans. RV has been called the &#8216;Fountain of Youth&#8217; by many in the media and this benefit perhaps has created the most buzz about this amazing molecule.</p>
<p> RV has been shown to <a href="http://www.naturalantiagingtreatments.com" target="_blank">increase the lifespan</a> of several different short-lived species, including baker&#8217;s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) (&#4370%), a certain species of roundworms (Caenorhabditis elegans) (&#4324%), fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) (&#4329%), and the short-lived turquoise killifish (Nothobranchius furzeri) (&#4350%)</p>
<p> Prior to the discovery of RV, only one method consistently extended lifespan in the laboratory, and that was through calorie restriction. In scientific experiments scientists were able to increase the lifespan of several different species by reducing their caloric intake by 30-40% while still providing them all the necessary nutrients.</p>
<p> Resveratrol seems to cause the same physiological response as calorie restriction. Both RV and calorie restriction activate sirtuins, which are known as &#8216;longevity genes&#8217; in the body. What is exciting about RV is that its benefits will be more easily experienced than via calorie restriction. Restricting one&#8217;s calories by 30-40% is not something most people are willing or able to do. Taking a resveratrol supplement to experience a longer and more youthful life is something we are all capable of doing and should be doing to capture the benefits of this amazing nutrient.</p>
<p> <strong>Reason #2: Resveratrol May Reduce Risk of Heart Disease</strong><br /> There are a number of heart protecting benefits that have been exhibited by resveratrol (RV) in vitro. RV has been shown to cause vasodilation (dilation, or widening of the blood vessels) through the production of nitric oxide (NO) and the inhibition of inflammatory enzymes. RV has also exhibited the ability to inhibit platelet aggregation. Platelet aggregation can lead to blood clots and a possible stroke or heart attack.</p>
<p> RV has also shown to be a potent anti-inflammatory. Several studies suggest that inflammation contributes to fatty deposits building up in the lining of arteries (aka atheroschlerosis). Fatty deposits can in turn clog arteries and cause heart attacks.</p>
<p> <strong>Reason #3: Resveratrol May Reduce Risk of Alzheimer&#8217;s:</strong><br /> A characteristic of Alzheimer&#8217;s disease and many other degenerative mental diseases is the deposition of plagues in the brain. These plagues are caused by proteins called amyloid-beta peptides. Numerous scientific studies have shown that adding resveratrol to the cells that create amyloid-beta peptides significantly lowers their levels in these cells. Experts theorize that the result of reducing amyloid-beta peptides will result in reduced deposition of these brain damaging plagues and thus reduced occurrence of Alzheimer&#8217;s.</p>
<p> The deposition of amyloid-beta peptides in the brain are also thought to be a cause of Alzheimer&#8217;s, Parkinson&#8217;s, Huntington&#8217;s, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob, and Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob diseases.</p>

<p>Regular workout protects the bones from the effects of a calorie-restricted diet, according to a recent study. Since working out prevents bone loss during voluntary weight loss, calorie deprivation should be combined with exercising in order to achieve a balance between losing weight and preserving the bone, according to Dl. Villareal.</p>
<p> Over a one-year time period, nineteen people followed a calorie-restricted diet, another nineteen ate as usual but engaged in regular workout, and ten people from the control group only followed a healthy lifestyle. The results showed a weight loss of about eighteen pounds and a bone density loss of more than two percent among the dieters.</p>
<p> The exercisers had a weight loss of almost fifteen pounds and no significant changes concerning bone mineral density. For the healthy lifestyle group there were no changes about the weight loss or the bone mineral density.</p>
<p> However, the calorie-restriction diet has benefic effects, according to Dr. Villareal. Calorie restriction should not be considered a negative, as it helps reduce the risk of disease and contributes to losing weight.</p>
<p> It is also possible that calorie restrictions may result in <a href="http://www.naturalantiagingtreatments.com" target="_blank">anti-aging</a> benefits, which could not be achieved solely by exercising. In May they put out a press release stating that &#8216;Thousands of research studies have documented how the oils known as omega-3 fatty acids can benefit the cardiovascular system, particularly among people diagnosed with coronary artery disease&amp;The most compelling evidence for the cardiovascular benefit provided by omega-3 fatty acids comes from three large controlled trials of 32,000 participants randomized to receive omega-3 fatty acid supplements containing DHA and EPA&amp;.These trials showed reductions in cardiovascular events of 19 percent to 45 percent. Overall, these findings suggest that intake of omega-3 fatty acids, whether from dietary sources or fish oil supplements, should be increased, especially in those with or at risk for coronary artery disease.&#8217;</p>
<p> The breakthrough is not that fish oils prevent and treat heart disease; we&#8217;ve known that for years.
